Conventionally, rescue groups operate independently. Some are breed specific, some are species specific and some will rescue a variety of animals. They are not necessarily affiliated and may have different operating principles such as, requirements for potential adopters, application and adoption fees, whether or not they are non-profit, contract terms and how much volume they can handle.
People find strays, but cannot keep them and will search for help in placing the animal only to give up due to the lack of coordinated, cohesive information. ARGNC.com saw a need to provide a statewide one-stop information center to assist both the general public and rescue organizations coordinate rescue efforts.
While we also provide information about and encourage adopting rescued animals, our primary goals are:
- To unite the general public with rescue organizations in their area for the purpose of placing an animal with an organization that specializes in finding safe, loving permanent homes for stray animals
- To help rescue organizations find other resources when they are unable to assist at any given time
- To enable independent rescue organizations to work together as a team with the ultimate goal of saving and adopting animals to safe, loving permanent homes
- To promote public awareness of humane euthanasia options
- To connect people who cannot adopt, but who want to help, with the rescue organizations for the purpose of volunteering to foster, to help out at adoption fairs or to donate money to a local rescue organization
We appreciate donations to help ensure this site can remain effective in the above goals. Any donations not needed for the site’s efforts will be distributed to the various rescue organizations listed here.
NOT LOOKING, BUT WANT TO HELP?
Many people want to help but who cannot adopt at this time. If you’d like to help, there is a myriad of ways you can do so.
- All of the rescue organizations listed here can benefit greatly from monetary donations. Many of them literally run tabs at veterinary clinics in their efforts to rescue animals. Many have animals that will never get adopted due to major medical problems and will keep those animals in their organization until they die of natural causes. The expenses associated with rescuing animals are high and ongoing. Donations are tax deductible when made to a non-profit organization.
- Sometimes the number of rescued animals gets disproportionately high, such as in the summer. Rescue organizations routinely recruit people who are willing to temporarily foster animals until such time as the animals are adopted into a safe, loving permanent home. If you are interested in providing a foster home, please contact a rescue organization in your area.
- Rescue organizations need help transporting animals to their new homes. Much like the underground railroad of our past, rescue groups will coordinate a chain of people across a wide expanse in order to get an animal to its new home. If you would like to be available for these transportation efforts, please contact a rescue organization in your area.
- Adoption Fairs are events in which multiple rescue organizations will set up for the general public to come by and see the animals in person. Volunteers help walk dogs, re-fill water bowls, and discuss adoption procedures with the general public as well as other functions. We have a calendar of these events posted and if you would like to volunteer to help at one, please contact ARGNC.com.
